THE STORY OF ARTISAN FARMS
We are a sustainable company connecting farm to table.
We do this by supporting hardworking, local, farming families. All of our meat is ethically and humanely raised in Ontario.
The Nolan homestead, Rockyford Farms, is settled in Iron Springs, AB in the valley of the Old Man River just East of Picture Butte.
Bar 5 Farms is established in Manitoba to import Simmental cattle from Europe.
Bar 5 amalgamates all farms to Markdale, ON and expands the Angus and Simmental herds to over 400 cows.
Top Meadow Farms (TMF) Certified Artisan Beef program is approved by CFIA for “Raised without Antibiotics” (RWA) beef label claims.
Artisan Foods Limited (AFL) is formed, amalgamating COB and TMF with its purchase of Kerr Farms Ontario Angus Beef.
AFD opens a fresh meat distribution centre at 6400 Shawson Drive in Mississauga to better serve Ontarians.
The Artisan team continues to bring hormone free, antibiotic free meats from local farms to the Ontario market.
Ron Nolan Sr., father of Greg Nolan, grows up on a mixed farm in Southern Alberta. Today that farm is owned by Ron’s nephew Larry Nolan who operates a large feed lot and farming operation.
The Nolan family moves to Ontario and purchases the “Harkaway” farm in Markdale, Ontario.
Certified Ontario Beef Ltd. (COB) is founded to be the selling arm of Bar 5 Farms.
Wagyu herds are introduced into the farming activities.
Artisan Farms Direct Ltd. (AFD) takes over wholesale beef sales from AFL and expands into different species such as lamb and veal.
The Artisan team continues to grow and charge forward with their mission of Connecting Farm to Market, supporting producers and farming communities and showcasing the quality of our local meats to an ever-growing market.
